Police investigating body found near East St. Johns Road
A man was found dead Sunday morning in an abandoned parking lot off the southbound Interstate 35 frontage road in North Austin, police officials said.The man was found about 9 a.m. and was taken away by the Travis County Medical Examiner’s office just before 11 a.m. from the parking lot, just north of East St. Johns Road. Police had no details about the man or how he ended up there, and said they won’t be able to rule out any foul play until an autopsy.
“Detectives and the medical examiners are out here working,” Cpl. Luis Soler said. Police will consider the death suspicious until an autopsy can rule that out, he said.
Officials have not identified the man.
Several day laborers gathered at a gas station near the lot where the man found said they knew the man. They said his first name was David but he also answered to Jalapeño. The men said he was about 45 to 50 years old and had health issues.
