Banksy fakes may be popping up in Paris France. Even a website, http://banksy-paris.com/ with the heading "Back To The Roots" sub heading " Paris was not tagged in one day"
and a youtube channel, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-RpSYfSEys0 has popped up. and even an instagram http://instagram.com/banksyparis#
Many speculations are spraying about. One email claims the images are real another coming from Banksy's agent claims they are fake. On top of that rumors are that Banksy is planning a Paris.
Will we see more of this? The work is very easy to copy if one is so inclined, even the political humor. Has the Banksy wave hit the beach? Now will his work become the joke that Banksy once poked at?

Banksy and Eddie Colla alleged Walmart stencil theft?
In an earlier in a post I briefly mentioned is Banksy allegedly lifting ideas from people he has surfed on the web. Banksy work is in Walmart and there appears to be a problem.

paul beck is FB friends with Eddie Colla. He has sent the question "wouldn't Banksy inc. have to sign a licensing agreement with Walmart on this?". We will find out.

Jerry Saltz Hates Banksy

New York art critic Jerry Saltz has had it with Banksy. Jerry gets the media PR campaign behind the brand Banksy but he finds the work "meh". Jerry basically points out there not much to the work other then hype and one liners. There is no unique style. from Jerry's FB page "Mr. Meh. Jerry Saltz is pointing out other artist approach these topics with their style being recognizable. Banksy's work reminds me of a water down version of long time Austin Texas artist Paul Beck. Even the recent video work from Banksy utilizing war footage Paul Beck did several years ago. Also one of the music videos Paul Beck created that premiered on I.F.C. witch they declared the most subversive video you will see this year used this technique. Does Banksy have cable? Is he surfing the web mining other artist work to feed his hype machine?

Mark English started the Billboard Revolution several years back and creates his stylized paintings pointing out the trappings of commercial culture. He did appear in Exit Through the Gift Shop. So a little props was thrown his way.
Observers have noted that his style is similar to Blek le Rat, who began to work with stencils in 1981 in Paris, Jef Aerosol, who sprayed his first street stencil in 1982 in Tours (France), and members of the anarcho-punk band Crass, which maintained a graffiti stencil campaign on the London Tube System in the late 1970s and early 1980: wikipedia
then there was this weird rumor "According to TRA, “the super had it open to show some friends. He was super nice.” That is, until Swizz tried to lowball him. “He said Swizz Beatz was there the day before [Wednesday] and offered $10,000 for it. The super said ‘Get the fuck outta here!’”

"The problem, as graphic designer and writer Sean Tejaratchi points out, is that the quote borrows heavily from Tejaratchi's essay "Death, Phones, Scissors," which was published in his Crap Hound zine back in 1999. While Banksy's first paragraph is original, the rest of his quote shows significant similarities to Tejaratchi's piece, including some direct repetition."

Long story short: Banksy didn't steal from me. He didn't plagiarize that quote on advertising. Ten years ago, he was careless, the opposite of sneaky. What's more, I was also careless.
Here's what's become clear: Around 2002-2003, Banksy included my words in Cut It Out, a self-published collection of his drawings and stencils. Banksy shortened the end paragraphs of my essay and changed it from first- to second-person perspective (for example, "they never asked for my permission" became "they never asked for your permission.") He then added Crap Hound to a list of credits in the back of the book, along with other sources and photo credits."
