INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Overwhelming "human gridlock" in Indianapolis' Super Bowl Village was causing police to rethink crowd control Saturday on the eve of the big game.
Eleven people were injured Friday night as an estimated 50,000 people flooded downtown streets for a free outdoor concert by the band LMFAO. Two other people were injured Friday separate from the concert-going group. Indianapolis Public Safety Director Frank Straub said none of the injuries were serious, most involving shortness of breath or scraped knees.
Officials were still tweaking their downtown plan Saturday as they prepared for more concerts and activities before kickoff, and they seemed to be pleased with the early results.
"The crowd, everything is great," Indianapolis Department of Public Safety Capt. Kevin Givens said Saturday night. "We've not having any problems with overcrowding."
The less-favorable weather conditions Saturday might have had something to do with that as mist changed to drizzling rain, with temperatures in the 30s. There was bumper-to-bumper traffic on some streets heading into downtown, but as of 10 p.m., police had not reported any injuries or arrests.
Police made a total of 22 arrests Friday night, mostly for public intoxication. One police car was damaged after concert-goers climbed on top of it to get a better view of the stage.
To make more room for people downtown, police closed down some streets completely and others just to inbound traffic. Additional officers were stationed near Super Bowl Village.
Rumors of stampedes, stage collapses and gunshots abounded on social-networking site Twitter as crowds grew Friday, and Straub said Indianapolis Metropolitan Police officers investigated them all and found no problems. He said reports of officers using pepper spray, Tasers or force of any kind to control the crowd were all false.
Super Bowl Host Committee spokeswoman Dianna Boyce said despite its overwhelming size, the crowd was good-natured and caused few problems.
"It looked like a lot of people having a good time," Boyce said. "When you have 200,000 people, you have to continue to keep everyone safe."
Kaitlyn Blacha of West Lafayette and her friends went downtown to see LMFAO Friday night, but Georgia Street was already so packed that they couldn't even see the stage. She said the crowd trying to get to the stage was mostly young, drunk, college-age kids. In the span of an hour, she was able to move about a block and was pushed from behind several times.
"At times, I was pinned so tightly I didn't even have to hold my body up," Blacha said. "Nobody could turn back. We were just stuck."
About an hour after arriving, she said security officers began ushering crowds down nearby alleys to alleviate some of the pressure on Georgia Street. She went down an alley and tried to return to Super Bowl Village but entrances were blocked off. She and her friends instead headed for a nearby bar.
"I never felt scared for my safety," she said. "It was Friday night and we were going downtown. We got what we deserved."
In preparation for free outdoor concerts from the bands Umphrey's McGee and O.A.R. on Saturday, Straub said between 650 and 700 officers will be on duty in the downtown area, 50 more than originally planned. Officers were prepared to close off access to the Super Bowl Village if crowds became too unruly.

Police break up Occupy Austin encampment

By Patrick George and Tony Plohetski | Friday, February 3, 2012, 11:55 PM

UPDATE 12:45 A.M.: City officials confirmed seven people were arrested tonight, all on charges of criminal trespass.

In a surprise move tonight, Austin police officers began breaking up the Occupy Austin encampment, moving protesters who for nearly four months had set up sleeping bags, signs and a makeshift library in front of City Hall.

Armed with city policy adopted Thursday that bans people from the public building during overnight hours, officers began clearing the protesters about 9:30 p.m. They said that they were enforcing new rules that also ban sleeping, camping and storing sleeping equipment on the plaza, mezzanine and amphitheater — the sites that the group has called home since Oct. 6.

Although the effort started peacefully, the mood began to get heated about 10:45 p.m. as members gathered to discuss what to do next. Many yelled “Shame!” and “Freedom of Speech!” at officers and city staff.

A young woman has suffered minor injury in what appeared to be a scuffle with police.

Protesters have now left City Hall, which is completely surrounded by officers. Protesters appear to be marching north on Lavaca Street. A police motorcycle is diverting traffic in front of the the plaza.

About five people were arrested on criminal trespass charges, a city official said.

One member, Michelle Millett, called the police response “inhuman.”

“The city has failed continuously with its homeless issues. Our homeless population grows by the day. Just because they sweep them off the staircase that doesn’t mean they’ll disappear,” Millett said. “Give us a day at least to come up with a plan. That’s the common-sense thing to do.”

Officials in recent months have contended with the rising costs of police overtime and maintaining cleanliness at City Hall as 30 to 40 people slept there for many weeks.

In mid-January, police officials said the cost of constant police patrols had climbed to about $110,000 to $115,000 every two weeks. City officials estimated Friday night that the movement has now cost taxpayers about $800,000 over the last few months.

Occupy Austin members said the 24-hour patrols were not warranted, but police officials have disagreed, saying 118 people have been arrested there between October and mid-January.

Police have said most of the previous arrests have involved criminal trespass or having outstanding warrants. Others have been arrested on suspicion of public intoxication, fighting, exposing themselves or other crimes.

For months, city officials said they had no plans to vacate the protesters because they were engaging in peaceful assembly protected by the First Amendment.

UN Wants World Tax To ‘Help The Poor’

Global levy needed to aid “needy people” get free housing, education and healthcare

The United Nations wants a world tax imposed on all financial transactions to fund a global model of social services that will provide “needy people” with a basic income, free healthcare, education and housing.

The drive is part of the UN’s mission to create a “social protection floor” under the auspices of the Commission on Social Development, which began this week in New York. The SPF will become the UN’s primary focus from 2015 onwards when the Millennium Development Goals project concludes.

“The money to fund these services may come from a new world tax,” reports the Deseret News, quoting Jens Wandel, Deputy Director of the United Nations Development Program, who said that a long term funding plan for the project would center around “a minimal financial transaction tax (of .005 percent). This will create $40 billion in revenue.”

“No one should live below a certain income level,” stated Milos Koterec, President of the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations. “Everyone should be able to access at least basic health services, primary education, housing, water, sanitation and other essential services.”

According to the report, the new global tax is designed to be a progressive scale, with higher earners paying more to help provide “all needy people with a basic income, healthcare, education and housing.”

This represents the UN’s latest attempt to fleece western taxpayers under the utopian rhetoric of global socialism.

While invoking the plight of the world’s poor as a justification to create a slush fund under its control, the UN is also invoking the discredited pseudo-science of man-made global warming in an effort to shake down the developed world through the imposition of carbon taxes.

A d v e r t i s e m e n t

A new UN report entitled “Resilient People, Resilient Planet: A Future Worth Choosing,” calls for punishing economies deemed not “sustainable” by establishing, “natural resource and externality pricing instruments, including carbon pricing, through mechanisms such as taxation, regulation or emissions trading systems, by 2020.”

A 2010 UN blueprint for putting the organization back at the forefront of global governance alarmingly revealed the agenda to re-brand global warming as “overpopulation” as a means of dismantling the middle classes while using “global redistribution of wealth” and increased immigration to reinvigorate the pursuit of a one world government.

The United Nations also called for using the pretext of environmental threats to concentrate power and wealth into its hands during the recent UN Climate Summit in Durban, a plan under which the west would be mandated to respect “the rights of Mother Earth” by paying a “climate debt” which would act as a slush fund for bankrolling an all-powerful world government.

Even if one entertains the viability of countries being forced by the UN to send even more money overseas, trusting the United Nations to oversee such a massive transfer of wealth would be somewhat naive given the fact that the organization is inherently corrupt, as the oil for food scandal illustrated.

The UN also has a habit of using money designated for relief projects to enrich its own coffers, including the $732.4 million budget for earthquake-shattered Haiti, two thirds of which was spent on “the salary, perks and upkeep of its own personnel, not residents of the devastated island.”

TSA Trains Super Bowl Hot Dog Sellers To Spot Terrorists

Despite acknowledging there are “no credible or specific threats” to the safety of the 2012 Super Bowl in Indianapolis on Sunday, the TSA is training thousands of fast food sellers and other vendors to spot terrorists under the “First Observer” program.

“TSA said over 8,000 stadium vendors, parking lot attendants, shuttle bus drivers, and other transportation professionals received the agency’s First Observer training for detecting and assessing indicators and planning tactics of potential terrorist activities,” reports Government Security News.

As we have previously reported, many of the behaviors characterized as potential signs of terrorism by the TSA in its training procedures are mundane activities performed by a majority of people, including using a video camera, talking to police officers, wearing hoodies, driving vans, writing on a piece of paper, and using a cell phone recording application.

The First Observer program has previously been used by the TSA on America’s highways, most recently in Tennessee for the purpose of “bothering truck drivers and passengers by subjecting their cargoes to exhaustive searches,” as former Congressman Bob Barr wrote back in November.

Drivers were also recruited to become snitches under the auspices of “See Something, Say Something,” as VIPR teams (Visible Intermodal Prevention and Response) worked with the Tennessee Highway Patrol to oversee a process that has been criticized as an alarming sign of internal checkpoints becoming commonplace in America.

With Congress having recently given the green light to increase their funding, VIPR teams, who conducted over 9300 unannounced checkpoints last year alone, will also be very much in evidence at the Super Bowl this weekend.

A d v e r t i s e m e n t

“According to TSA, Super Bowl fans may encounter TSA Visible Intermodal Prevention and Response (VIPR) teams at local transportation venues, including commercial and general aviation facilities and mass transit,” reports GSN.

VIPR’s presence at the big game again illustrates the expanding scope of the deployment, under which TSA agents have been tasked with shaking down Americans at everywhere from bus depots, to ferry terminals, to train stations, in one instance conducting pat downs of passengers, including children, who had already completed their journey when arriving in Savannah.

The TSA yesterday denied a report out of WPRI that full body scanners would be used on fans entering the stadium, but reiterated that they would be in use at the nearby airport and also made reference to other “security issues” being coordinated with stadium venue security and local law enforcement.

Fans attending the game will be subject to a full body pat down and have been warned that most items being brought into the Lucas Oil Stadium will be confiscated.

Spoon-Fed Semen To Students

good lord:
from the huffington post:

Mark Berndt, Teacher, Allegedly Spoon-Fed Semen To Students
La School

Mark Berndt, a 61-year-old former teacher at Miramonte Elementary School, has been charged with 23 counts of committing lewd acts on children with authorities alleging he spoon-fed semen to his students, the Los Angeles Times reports.

According to the Times, Berndt told his students they were going to play "a tasting game," during which each were blindfolded and sometimes gagged with tape.

Authorities, as well as at least one parent, also alleged semen was fed to students on cookies and on a blue plastic spoon.

Local station KTLA reports the investigation started when a photo processor alerted authorities to photos of Berndt's which allegedly showed acts of bondage as well as the spoon-feeding.

In total, police report there are 23 male and female alleged victims, all ranging in age from 7 to 10-years-old. They also report the crimes took place between 2008 and 2010.

Debra Harmon, mother of a first grader at the school, told CBS she is shocked by the allegations.

"It is an outrage for something like this to go on in our school undetected," Harmon told the station.

School officials removed Berndt from his position back in March, and he was also put under police surveillance to keep him away from children while authorities built their case.

When investigators searched his classroom, CBS reports they found DNA evidence linking him to sexual crimes against the 23 children.

Kimberly Kirklan, parent of three daughters, told CBS she worries for the health of the children.

"You don't know what kind of diseases this man has," Kirklan told the station. "You don't know any history about this man. And you're taking our innocent babies and you're basically tainting them."

Berndt's bail has been set at $23 million. If convicted, he could face life in prison.
