Austin Texas Artist Paul Beck and Rainforest Partnership

One of Austin's favorite visual artist Paul Beck is partnering with Rainforest Partnership

Order Online Collect on of Paul Beck's prints and 50% of the proceeds are donated to the good works of Rainforest Partnership. It is that simple. The rainforest is considered the lungs of the planet. So let's keep the rainforest healthy. from the about section of http://www.rainforestpartnership.org/ Rainforest Partnership partner with forest communities to help them make an income that allows them to protect their forests. We do this by working with communities to develop and market products made out of raw materials found only in the rainforest or by providing services that are unique to rainforest. By developing the market for these products, locally, elsewhere in Latin America, and in the U.S., sales of these goods and services give residents a financial stake in protecting their forests. http://www.rainforestpartnership.org/

Lucy of Austin, Texas Welfare Revolution

Lucy of east riverside in Austin, Texas may have just started a revolution.   Lucy has just blown the lid off people who are healthy on welfare.  Lucy called 590 KLBJ AM and explain the life of a healthy person on wealth.  Once on the system there is know incentive to get off.  Why should they. Listen to the phone call Audio: The American middle class is being drained and guess who the target of the blow back will be. The poor who need a hand up. Lucy just gave the elite who run this country audio they can point to to keep the middle class and the poor fighting each other. Instead of realizing the 1 percent make the rules and reap the real rewards, Lucy just made herself and people like her the target of the majorities frustration.

The 1 percent thank you Lucy.

The Rainbow Killer, Austin Gay Community Shocked by The Murder of David Villarrea

Austin's Gay community rocked by murder of David Villareal.

The murder dubbed "The Rainbow Killer".   Police have little to go on and are asking people in the gay community to come forward with information on the man captured in surveillance photos.

according to poplar gay blogs 360 Condos are popular in the gay community:

    ◦    Plus, 360 Condos is almost nothing but gay people. there's always a party going on. I mean, if you met at Oil Can's and then go back to 360, you can't really use "gay panic" as a defense.
That being said, it opens this up to a variety of possibilities. I am NOT reading into anything just yet (especially as tragic as this is), but honestly, my first impression on watching the vid was that they both seemed like they were in a good mood. That's just me though.
This is so sad. We are such a small community here sometimes.

Death At 360 Condominiums

Photo of man police want to question in the murder investigation of David Villarreal
Police claim to have video surviellence from the time period in question.  Police state the video shows a white male in his 20s to early 30s, with a slender to medium build.  Police are investigating.

Police allege the men met downtown and proceed to David Villarreal's condo.  They believe the date went wrong.

from : AUSTIN (KXAN) - Detectives said Tuesday they have video of a possible suspect in the death of a 37-year-old man at the 360 Condominiums.
Police Sgt. Anthony Hipolito said around 9:45 pm on Monday, they received a 911 call alerting them of a missing person. The caller said they had not seen the victim in a couple days.
Officers went to the building at 360 Nueces Street and found a David Villarreal dead inside a unit on the 18th floor with traumatic injuries.
Homicide detectives were called to the scene and a preliminary investigation showed possible signs of trauma to the body. That led detectives to believe the death was suspicious.
About 3 p.m. Tuesday, detectives said they had video of a possible suspect. The person is described as a white male in his 20s to early 30s, with a slender to medium build. The video has not yet been released.
Police said they don't know the relation between the 911 caller and the victim.
Homicide detectives are expected to continue their investigation on Tuesday.  Hipolito said at this point, he doesn't believe residents at the condo should we worried about their safety.
APD is asking the public to call 512-472-TIPS (8477) with any information.

And of course, KXAN is avoiding all mention of "gay" or "Oilcan Harry's."
KEYE is at least saying "Oilcan Harry's," as is KVUE.
Gotta love local news, even in Austin.

KEYE had a report Tuesday about men meeting up in parks and public restrooms for sex.

    ▪    Thing is, I can remember KXAN being the station that creamed all over the kerfuffle with the bathhouse a few years back. I personally made sure they couldn't shoot a clean piece in the parking lot, because I knew it would be a hatchet piece (the fact that they didn't even try to ask me to move was pretty indicative). The fact that the other channels were pretty much leaving it alone said a lot to me.

This is a shame. People go to bars, they pick people up. It's almost always fun and so rarely ends in murder.
Posted by: Omar | Jul 17, 2013 10:53:19 PM

Reminder to everyone - don't go home with a stranger you just met a few hours before.
Posted by: Sad | Jul 18, 2013 1:12:35 AM

bandanajack is right.
This kind of stuff happens a lot more than people realize.
The number of missing persons continues to explode, and I believe many of them are gay.
The FBI released a report in mid or late 2012 that estimated that gang member numbers increased 40% in the last 2 years.
There are thousands and thousands of Matthew Shepard types of crimes every year, and most of which will never be known, as I believe, because most of them are missing.
And most of use 'gays' don't want to deal with that reality because we already have to deal with so much negativity from oppression and persecution that will just can't take anymore sometime.
If you're gay, and not a gay rights activist, you need to become one, myself included.
Someone has to put these pieces of trash in prison, and we can't count on law enforcement and the government to do real due-diligence in all cases.
Posted by: Kevin LS | Jul 18, 2013 5:59:24 AM

Newsflash:
There are bad gay and bi men and women with bad intent, who prey on gay and bi men and women. Not every murder of a gay man involves an evil homophobic 'straight', less still gang initiation.
Is it a wise thing to leave a bar with a stranger you've only slightly know and go home with him? No, it's not.
Posted by: ratbastard | Jul 18, 2013 11:47:56 AM

Guys who do things like what this murderer did are usually desperate, often serious drug addicts, excons, etc., He and pretty much everybody else know perfectly well there are CCTV cameras all over the place and in this case he was observed by witnesses and cameras leaving the bar with his victim, entering and leaving his victim's condo building. They do it anyway. Go figure. Hopefully, somebody who knows him, and maybe needs to cop a plea for their own criminal charges, will rat him out. Or he'll get caught some other way and claim it was an accident or some such BS.

year.

"SXSW is now like going to the mall drunk." Paul Beck

Owen Bay: So far what has been your favorite video with Molotov?

Paul Beck: Working with Molotov for the video Hit Me is one of my favorites. The video is a mini documentary combining street art, protest, and political posters with animation.  Police, street people and the sniping of monuments to Mc Donalds, it is all real.  Yeah working with Jaunes and the Black Eyed Peas was probably high on the global star level but the Molotov Hit Me video rocks.  One time I thought we were toast, apparently around 3am there was a shooting in one of the areas we where sniping and the Mexican police swarmed in.  Not a good time to fit the description.  All I could picture is me covered in wheat paste sitting in a Mexican jail a gringo piñata. No bueno.

Owen Bay: There was talk in the Austin film community that Radiohead and you were going to create an animated film.

Paul Beck:  Yes, at one point we were in the process of creating a project.

Owen Bay: Can you elaborate on what the project was?

Paul Beck: Will we had been featured on The Most Gigantic Lying Mouth.  After that we were asked to pitch some animated film ideas.

I came up with Successful Living In The Melt Down We Call The Future.  Successful Living was picked to develop.  The basic concept behind Successful Living was to create an animated story dealing with the slowly developing corporate police state and environmental mess the globe is slowly slipping into.

Within this total surveilled society we would follow a few characters as they stumble through media manipulation, mutation and other feel good flops sold as to solve your problems.

Two of my characters where inspired by Desert Storm.  I watched Shock and Awe as it played out on cable T.V. I felt this mission statement was directed at the viewers.  We were being taught what could come are way if we do not go along with the program.

Shock and Awe basically became two characters I created.  The character Shock was in a perpetual state of shock.  He saw behind the curtain.  I designed his eyes to have the thousand-mile stare and his mouth to be slightly open with barely an expression.  Shock new too much.
Awe was designed to be a gullible goof in awe of whatever you flashed in front of his face.  Awe was the type to camp out to be first at the Christmas sale.

Shock and Awe maybe they will be with us soon.

Paul Beck: What?  anyway we stuck Shock's head around town to start creating underground hype and what not.

Owen Bay: Why did the project not proceed?

Paul Beck: Well, to the best I can understand, the time it took to find funding and the right outlets for the content was longer then expected.  Thom Yorke had moved on to other projects.  I believe this was when he started Atoms for Peace so his head was in another place.  Flea the dude from Busta Move video is also in Atoms for Peace.  Flea is most likely the best bass player out there.

Owen Bay: Is it true Atoms for Peace are playing a secret show at SXSW 2013?

Paul Beck: I have know idea.  But their Album, CD whatever they call it these days just came out.  Maybe, Atoms for Peace and Justin Timberlake secret SXSW show since Thom Yorke and Justin Timberlake and Angry Cat like to dance. "We are a Sad Band", "Atoms For Peace" Angry Cat.  do the math.

Owen Bay:  You have also worked with Austin's own The Calm Blue Sea and Panjoma.  Are they involved with SXSW?

Paul Beck: I know there label Modern Outsider is holding events.  I plan on checking that out.

Paul Beck:  And I believe Panjoma is playing at a couple events downtown.  Panjoma allowed me to experiment with some new animation techniques.  Thanks Panjoma for letting an artist play and learn.  Watch the video and melt into your reality.

Owen Bay: Have you been working on future projects?

Paul Beck:  Well,  A Thousand Pound Bomb has been shown in several festivals over seas and what not,   So we may be developing with elements from that project.  That's all I got to say on that front.  I am always tinkering on something, art, animation, music,  and lawn darts.

Owen Bay: What do recommend for SXSW 2013

Paul Beck: Well things have changed over the years,  SXSW is now like going to the mall drunk.  I use to see crazy shows at Trophy's.  But now that is closed.  Always check out bands from Japan,  over the top rock.  Flaming Lips is on the list.  Then just wonder the streets checking out the freaks. Angry CAt
Also follow Marc Savlov of the Austin Chronicle,  Marc Savlov always finds the cool underground events of SXSW.  Don't look for Paul Bearer or Hugo Chavez.  But North Korea's Kim Jong Un and Dennis Rodman are rumored to party like a preemptive nuclear attack...Rand Paul may Filibuster Drones at SXSW 2013 it's a new panel.

Owen Bay:  Thanks Paul.

David Ball, Jennifer Davis & Megan Kimber Grayduck

David Ball, Jennifer Davis & Megan Kimber Jennifer Davis at Grayduck Gallery:
review by: Owen Bay
theowenbay@gmail.com

Jennifer Davis painting have a subtle minimalistic approach, Davis tries to increase the dynamic between audience and author by objectifying emotions and investigating the duality that develops through different interpretations.
By contesting the division between the realm of memory and the realm of experience, she often creates work using creative game tactics, but these are never permissive. Play is a serious matter: during the game, different rules apply than in everyday life and even everyday objects undergo distortions.
Her works never shows the complete structure. This results in the fact that the artist can easily imagine an own interpretation without being hindered by the historical reality.

David Ball:

David Ball is an artist who mainly works with mixed media. With a surreal approach, Ball tries to increase the dynamic between audience and author by objectifying emotions and investigating the duality that develops through different interpretations.
His surreal mixed media artworks are characterised by play as a serious matter: during the game, different rules apply than in everyday life and even everyday objects undergo transubstantiation.
By examining the ambiguity and origination he tries to approach  subjects in a multi-layered way, likes to involve the viewer in a way that is sometimes physical and believes in the idea of function following form in a work.

Magen Kimber:

Kimber absorbs the tradition of remembrance art into daily practice. This personal follow-up and revival of a past tradition is important as an act of meditation.
Her paintings are an investigation into representations of (seemingly) concrete ages and situations as well as depictions and ideas that can only be realized in painting. By examining the ambiguity and origination via retakes and variations, she tries to increase the dynamic between audience and author by objectifying emotions and investigating the duality that develops through different interpretations.
Her works are based on situations: visions that reflect a sensation of indisputability and serene contemplation, combined with subtle details of odd or eccentric elements. By emphasising aesthetics, she wants the viewer to become part of the art as a kind of added component.
Her works sometimes radiate a cold and latent violence. At times, disconcerting beauty emerges. The inherent visual seductiveness, along with the conciseness of the exhibitions, further complicates the reception of their manifold layers of meaning. By contesting the division between the realm of memory and the realm of experience, she seduces the viewer into a world of ongoing equilibrium and the interval that articulates the stream of daily events. Moments are depicted that only exist to punctuate the human drama in order to clarify our existence and to find poetic meaning in everyday life.

Sonya Berg Tiny Park

Sonya Berg mixes paintings and photos. By examining the ambiguity and origination via retakes and variations, Berg creates intense personal moments masterfully created by means of rules and omissions, acceptance and refusal, luring the viewer round and round in circles. Her paintings doesn’t reference recognisable form. The results are deconstructed to the extent that meaning is shifted and possible interpretation becomes multifaceted. By applying abstraction, she absorbs the tradition of remembrance art into daily practice. This personal follow-up and revival of a past tradition is important as an act of meditation.
Her works never shows the complete structure. This results in the fact that the artist can easily imagine an own interpretation without being hindered by the historical reality. By contesting the division between the realm of memory and the realm of experience, she tries to increase the dynamic between audience and author by objectifying emotions and investigating the duality that develops through different interpretations.
Her collected, altered and own works are being confronted as aesthetically resilient, thematically interrelated material for memory and projection. The possible seems true and the truth exists, but it has many faces, as Hanna Arendt cites from Franz Kafka

Austin Noodle House owner Eddie Nimibutr

Thailand-born Nimibutr’s crass racism “I’m failing to give a damn about the CT shooting. I don’t care if a bunch of white kids got killed. F**k Post-Racial bullshit. When kids from minority groups get shot, nobody cares. When Israel launched missiles at the school on Gaza, everybody was too busy jerking off. Why should i care about people who dont give a damn about me? Personal responsibility, right?”

Austin Police Sweep the Street

Austin Entertainment District gets a good old fashion street sweep.  Austin's police go street by street checking homeless people ID's.  Cleaning up downtown Public Order Insensitive

Over the weekend 300 hundred homeless were arrested compared to the average 90.

Homeless advocate believe the actions taken by the Police are in preparation for the F1 event.  The wealth attending F1 do not need to be subjected to the homeless.   Unlike the citizens of Austin who have to on a daily bases.

Austin Texas who does No Refusal Weekends mainly on local events but not on tourist beer fueled events like SXSW or ACL.  seems to be creating a pattern.

Lance Armstrong Doped or not

Lance Armstrong continued to deny ever doping, “an unconstitutional witch hunt”  to deal with his matter was “one-sided and unfair.”
Armstrong said “There comes a point in every man’s life when he has to say, ‘Enough is enough,’ " “For me, that time is now.”

Armstrong “finished with this nonsense.”

According to the World Anti-Doping Code, means he will be stripped of his seven Tour titles, the bronze medal he won at the 2000 Olympics and all other titles, awards and money he won from August 1998 forward.

Armstrong said the case against him was flimsy without that physical evidence.
“Regardless of what Travis Tygart says, there is zero physical evidence to support his outlandish and heinous claims,” Armstrong said. “The only physical evidence here is the hundreds of controls I have passed with flying colors.”
