Update: Shooting victim may have tried to stop robbery at strip club

Update 8:30 a.m.: Police officials say the victim in this morning’s fatal shooting outside a South Austin strip club was a bystander who may have tried to stop a robbery.
Police spokesman Cpl. Anthony Hipolito said police received a 911 call about a shooting at the Palazio strip club on Ben White Boulevard around 1:15 a.m. When they arrived, officers found a deceased white man near the front entrance who had been shot, Hipolito said.
Hipolito said the victim may have tried to tried to intervene in the suspect’s attempt to rob the strip club. After a brief struggle, the victim was fatally shot, Hipolito said.
Police did not have a detailed description of the suspect, who fled the scene.

Earlier:Austin police are investigating an early morning homicide that happened at the Palazio strip club at 501 East Ben White Boulevard near South Congress Avenue.
According to preliminary reports from police officials, a man walked into the strip club around 1:15 a.m. with a gunshot wound saying he had been robbed. He was later died at the scene, officials said.
No immediate information was available about the victim or the suspect. Check back for more details.
